The Nominees could be...

As you all probably know awards season, or at least the major body of it, has come to an end for 2011. With the swift exit from the Frathaway (James Franco/Anne Hathaway almagamation) leaden Oscar's we are now just left with the less prestigious cult awards like the Satellite Awards and the Empire Jameson Awards.

These awards are tailored to go more towards the cult favorites of the year and often award the films that were ignored by the major award players. Such as Nowhere Boy, which was thought to be going places. Ir was nominated for a few Bafta's but ultimately bore little fruit. However Lead Actor Aaron Johnson was given his well deserved recognition with the Best Newcomer awards at the Empire Jameson Awards

(although he did leave it in the back of a cab and retrieved back on the Jonathan Ross show)
It is good when films such as Nowhere Boy gets the attention they deserved with  some semblance of recognition.

Shutter Island this year was getting quite some buzz "Scorsese doing a Thriller. WTF?"
WTF indeed. Scorsese is famed for getting his actors Oscar nominations but this year got, zippoThe academy seemed to have skimmed it over while basking in the glory of The King's Speech. Okay I am exaggerating vut you get my point. Shutter Islnad wasn't the best awards fodder but think of the other Leo film of the summer.

Inception was nominated for 8 Oscars (which should've been 9 for directing but i digress) and got 4, all technical.  For the film that was the biggest grossing film of the summer and was a huge critical success it almost seemed like this film could please everybody and that it would be recognized as such.

There are plenty of people and films that do not get recognized for the work they do in the industry. Like animations, only 3 get nominated for the best anmated feature, when best picture gets 10.
In the past 83 years only 3 films have been nominated for best picture, Beauty and the Beast, Up and Toy story 3.

One thing I have pondered a lot is why do voice actors never get any recognition. It may just sound like embellishment but i have heard many times over that voice acting is truly difficult. Having to portray all that character and emotion through just your voice is hard. It takes true skill to put all that into what you say and make it believable, enjoyable and likable.

Some actors may never get the chance to earn the little gold statuette otherwise. Many an actor makes a decent livelihood from working in a recording booth all day and they make great final products.

I'm not saying award every Tom. Dick and Harry but some of the greats, like the late Tony Jay, Or maybe in a parallel universe Peter O'Toole may have finally one for his great vocal contributions in Ratatouille. After 8 nominations the guy needs to catch a break.

This could give such actors the well deserved attention they need while opening peoples eye's to overlooked talent. Craig T. Nelson for The incredibles, Jean Simmons for Howls Moving Castle. these are some of the possibilities that could have been.

This could even go for Voice overs, like narration. One such prime example if there ever was one is Morgan Freeman for The Shawshank Redemption. A moving narration if there ever was one. Or William Holden for Sunset Boulevard. Terrence Mallick's The New World has an array of narration that transports you into this something that's not only a movie but an experience.
Some of the greatest movies made have voice over narration so just take a look at the recognition they get for it.

It may seem like much ado about nothing but i feel that people who stay behind a glass booth for a living and still manage to contribute wholly to modern cinema deserves recognition.

Over and Out.
