oncoming challenge

So it's been a couple of months. Well now those months have gone into a new year. Which is kind of sucky but hey, what you going to do? Can't fight age. In recent months I have moved into my student digs. It's a house, which is all right. Housemates tend to keep to themselves but one of the biggest changes other than all the usual, the Uni, the people, being 467 miles from what you know, is that I can no longer use my Tv as a normal TV.

Let me explain. To access the channels using the TV you have to have a TV license and be able to plug the telly into the little aerial socket thingy. Well now that I don't have that I can no longer sit down and unwind, like you usually do, and zone out with whatever's on. It's all about self scheduling. Iplayer is now one of the greatest entertainement portals I have at my disposal, which is pretty neat. So it's now all about going on and finding what you want to watch, what you're in the mood for, instead of flicking through as you did previously.

However much this has been a curse it has also been a blessing. Sure I miss out on whatever cool ads may be on (what little their may be) or latest crazes and whatnot but I have become the sole beneficiary of providing my entertainment. Wait that sounds wierd. I'll go with it anyway. I have been able to focus more on things that I remember that I've always wanted to watch or things that have been interesting me for a while. Due to this I managed to catch up to the current season of Nathan Fillions Castle, got into new Australian drama The Slap and have now begun watching Seinfeld for the first time.

This leads me to my second point. Although I'm not even sure if what is above constitutes as anything near a point I'll continue. I've noticed a couple of people online have been doing these lists. I talked about Steven Soderberghs one which is available here and on one of my favourie sites Collider blogger, Matt Goldberg has done his own along with a visualisation. These are lists of, in SS's case all the movies, TV shows, books and I think short stories that he has consumed in one year. I am going to attempt the same. Well similar.

First I'm going to put down a rule or two.
- It will only be sought out material. Eg. if i go somewhere and there happens to be a TV on, then the choice is out of my hands so it doesn't get listed. However anything I seek out and aim to watch will be put on.
- The list will include Movies, TV shows (the same series may be listed several times in one day due to continuous further viewing) but only scripted ones, no reality, talkshow kind of things. Books, but only complete one's not highlights, chapters or excerpts, but I am allowing educational materials, say for Uni, on.
- No short stories, as I believe Mr. Soderbergh did.
- Feature length scripts will be included, but not short films or scripts.
- Viewings of materials that have been seen before and are being rewatched must be marked so and if a Movie is seen on the big screen then it must also be noted.
- Dates for all must be included. I will try to note down at least the numbers of what episodes are being viewed, but I can't promise anything and if something is not fully watched (excluding credits) then it is not submissable.

I'm not sure if I'll be able to stick with this but I am getting pretty psyched for the whole idea. I'm guessing this will give a little bit of an insight into my cinema viewings and the amount of procrastination I can achieve. Here's hoping I don't shame myself by this time next year.
